Frederick George Zacharia

Suddenly, on Thursday, May 21, 2020, Frederick George Zacharia, age 73, of Woodbine, Md., fell asleep in the Lord.  He was born in Washington, DC, son to Fred and Evelyn Mary Zacharia.  Fred graduated from Northwood High School in Silver Spring, Md.  He attended Montgomery Junior College part time while working full time at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in White Oak Maryland.  It was during this time that he met and married Sharen (Sherrie) Price.  Fred served proudly in the U.S. Navy, stationed at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA, where he trained and served as an ordnance specialist during the Vietnam War. Upon completing his military service Fred returned to Silver Spring to full time employment at Sears.  His career as a salesman lasted for over 43 years.  Fred also went back to college and in 1981 he graduated from Howard Community College in Columbia, MD with an Associate in Arts degree in Construction Technology.  Fred and Sherrie then built their own home in Woodbine, MD.

Fred was a kind, gentle, loyal, loving man who did all things “his” way.  He loved spending his time outdoors and gardening.  He was very proud of being a Lebanese American and was a faithful and active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church where he openly embraced and loved his church family, finding comfort in attending Liturgy every Sunday.  Fred also maintained close and loving connections with his Sears family whose friendships he valued and cherished. 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherrie, and his daughter, Stephanie Hatmaker (Brian); three sisters, Barbara Zamer (Tom), Elizabeth Mele (Eugene), and Christine Seng (John); two cherished grandchildren, Aidan and Gabrielle; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
