David Humphrey Obituary

David Longinus Humphrey gained his angel wings on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 57 years young.

Born March 15, 1965 in Birch Grove, St. Andrew, Grenada to his mother Bernadette Monica Humphrey and father Gellineau James. As a young boy and into young adulthood David was a member of the Grenada Boy Scouts Association. He graduated from the Grenada Boys Secondary School in St. George’s then began his quest to become an engineer at the Grenada Technical and Vocational Institute. In 1984, David became a member of staff at St. Matthew’s Catholic School in Birch Grove as a Teacher. He then moved on to join the team at Grentel, Cable and Wireless where they sponsored his trip to the United Kingdom to further develop his skills as a technical engineer in the field of telecommunications.  In the mid 90’s, David migrated to the United States and continued his career at Adesta/MCI. Since then, David has continued to master his craft rising to become a very decorated member at Fairfax County, Virginia government as the Supervising Engineering Inspector of the Site Development and Inspection Division.

Yet, David’s abilities as an engineer was but a speck in his life. In 1995, he married his long-time sweetheart, Marina. They were happily married for 27 years. Along the way, they have faced many trials but have always pushed through the adversity to become stronger each time. David was an extremely supportive partner and would put his entire self into everything he did. Together they pursued many adventures and were often considered to be joined at the hip. Their love for one another exceeded even their own expectations of what love means.

David also had love for his three children - Amanda, Amina and Jeavid. Because of his upbringing, David even had love for those who were not his children. He was Grandpi and Dad to his granddaughter, Aria, and wanted nothing but the best for her. He truly had so much love to give and would never turn down someone in need.  David was very supportive of all his children and would do anything to help them succeed in their endeavors, from recreation to entertainment to showcasing Grenadian culture. He will truly be missed.

David was a Jack of all trades! He knew how to fix almost everything and if he didn’t, he would try anyway. David loved music! While in Grenada, he was the sound engineer for a very popular group, Rhydum Mix. He also enjoyed sharing music with the community beginning his livestream sessions with Caribbean Drum as well as being the DJ for the community as well as his Fairfax County department’s annual events and also at some local restaurants.

Most of all, David loved his family!

David is survived by his loving and supportive wife Marina, his 3 children Amanda, Amina, Jeavid and his granddaughter, Aria.

On his maternal side, David is survived by his mother Monica sisters Elithia, Barbara, Jacqueline, Aliana, Dawne and brothers Delon and Roxly.

On his paternal side, David is survived by his father Gellineau sisters Carina, Celena, Hilda, Keisha and brothers Roy, Arnoldo and Kimo. He was preceded in death by brother, Hildebrand.

In addition, David is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members who loved him tremendously. He was well respected by all the people whom he encountered.

May his soul rest in God’s eternal peace.
