Mary E Arnett, known affectionately as "Honey Bunny" by her late husband, and fondly remembered as "Purplelady" by her community, passed away on August 25, 2026. Born on February 7, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, Mary was a spirited, witty, loving, and loyal woman. The world was graced with her presence for 76 years, during which time she brightened many lives with her vivacious spirit and warm heart.
Mary was a woman of many hats. As a Physical Education teacher and a customer service representative for Verizon, Maryland, she touched countless lives with her dedication and perseverance, earning The Presidential Award for Physical Fitness. She was a woman of strong faith, and like the biblical Mary, she exhibited devotion and love to all around her. In the words of the Lutheran hymn, she truly 'walked with God, in perfect harmony'. After retiring, Mary filled her time with a love for collecting teapots and shopping for clothes, shoes, and purses, always with an impeccable eye for style.
Above all, what mattered most to Mary was her family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Zera Arnett, lovingly known as "Z". Together, they shared 37 beautiful years. Her love for her family extended to her son Cory, her daughter-in-law Saysha, her brother-in-laws Lawrence and Robert, and her nieces and nephews Vesper, Justin, Jay, and Deirdre. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, David and Lila Ellerbe. Her memories will continue to live on, carried in the hearts of those who loved her.
As we remember Mary, we celebrate her unique qualities and achievements. She was a beacon of light, love, and joy in all our lives. We invite you to share your memories of Mary and upload photos to the memorial page as we celebrate her life and legacy. May her spirit continue to inspire us all.
