Helen Retzos

Helen Retzos passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026. Helen was born on January 15, 1928, in the village of Xemara, Albania, to the late Savva and Amalia Lazarus. She was married to the late Christos Retzos. After the death of her husband, she moved to the island of Corfu, Greece, where she raised her son. She eventually left her home in Greece and moved to the United States where she worked tirelessly to raise her son and provide for her family. She spent her later years in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Helen was dedicated to her Greek Orthodox faith, and her heart held an infinite capacity for love for her family. She is survived by her beloved son Angelo, her devoted daughter-in-law Nicki, her grandchildren Chris (Angela), Demetrios (Irene), and Eleni Retzos; her cherished great grandsons Yianni, Alex, Angelo, William, and Nikolas, were the center of her universe. They will forever carry the memory of her in their hearts.

It is with this spirit of love that we invite all who knew her to join us for her funeral service on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11:00am at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington DC, 721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, Maryland, 20905. The burial will follow at 1:00pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, 20906.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen's memory to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington, DC, 721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, MD 20905.
