Horace G. Mell Jr.

On February 20, 2018, Horace G. “Buddy” Mell, Jr, 85 of Silver Spring, MD, lost a rigorous fight against Parkinson’s Disease and related complications. During his final days he was comforted by family, friends and a most compassionate and caring staff at Kensington Park Retirement Community. He is survived by Geraldine N Mell, his wife of 64years, and a sister, Patricia A McDuffie.  Buddy is also survived by 5 children & 5 Grandchildren; Kevin (Kathleen), Patricia Savage (Albert), Karen Pecoraro (Michael), Mary (Deanna Hansson), Theresa Ballenger (Keith). Grandchildren; Andrew Klansek, Kevin Klansek, Lauren Ballenger, Brooke Ballenger, & Nicole Ballenger.

As a lifelong resident of Silver Spring, Buddy was a 60-year member of the parish of St. John the Evangelist, and a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus, Council #2169, Father Rosensteel. 

The family will hold viewing on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring Maryland, 20902.  A funeral Mass will be held at St. John’s on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in support of The Groves at Kensington Park Retirement Community.  http://act.alz.org/goto/kensingtonparkseniorliving
